The mission of Bear Valley Protection Society (B.V.P.S.) is to protect and restore the natural beauty and ecological integrity of the San Bernardino National Forest. Through community-driven efforts and inter-agency collaboration, we promote biodiversity, mitigate wildfire risks, conduct rehabilitation and reforestation projects, and inspire environmental stewardship.
Additionally, we work to remove invasive species and illegal dumpsites from hiking trails and forest lands to preserve this vital ecosystem for future generations.

Illegal dumping poses a serious threat to the health of our forests, contaminating soil and water, endangering wildlife, and creating hazardous conditions for both visitors and residents. Our illegal dumpsite cleanup efforts focus on removing trash and hazardous toxic waste, restoring affected areas, and preventing future dumping through education and enforcement partnerships.
By working with the U.S. Forest Service, local organizations, and dedicated volunteers, we tackle illegal dumpsites across the San Bernardino National Forest to preserve its natural beauty and ecological integrity.
Our cleanup efforts begin with identifying and assessing illegal dumpsites, which often contain household waste, tires, construction debris, and even hazardous materials.
Volunteers and partner organizations coordinate large-scale removal events, utilizing dump trailers, heavy equipment, and proper disposal methods to clear these sites safely and efficiently. In addition to removing waste, we focus on rehabilitating the land by restoring native vegetation, stabilizing disturbed soil, and installing barriers or signage to discourage future dumping.
Education and outreach play a key role in preventing illegal dumping. We engage with the community to raise awareness about the environmental impact of improper waste disposal and provide resources for responsible alternatives. Additionally, we collaborate with local agencies to improve reporting systems and enhance enforcement measures against repeat offenders. By fostering a culture of stewardship and accountability, we aim to protect the forest from further degradation.
Through these ongoing efforts, we are making a tangible difference in the health and sustainability of our public lands. Every cleanup not only removes harmful waste but also strengthens community involvement and reinforces the importance of preserving our shared natural spaces for future generations.
